To share learnings and ideas on how communities can move to healthier food provision in supermarket shopping environments. The team is closely linked with research, and is focused on the practical elements of support for communities, such as partnership formation.
The Healthy Supermarkets Community of Practice (CoP) is a group of practitioners working with supermarkets who come together to share learnings and ideas about creating healthier supermarket shopping environments offering nutritious, culturally appropriate, and local environmentally sustainable food.
Supermarkets and other food retailers are invited to attend meetings on occasion to share initiatives they are working on that are aligned with our mission of increasing access to healthier, equitable and environmentally sustainable food. The Healthy Supermarkets CoP receives no funding from the food retail sector.
It was established by Healthy Greater Bendigo and is currently led by VicHealth based on high levels of interest in the Eat Well @ IGA project and the growing number of practitioners. The Community of Practice includes members from local and state government, community health and research institutions from Australia and NZ, and meets quarterly. We hope to grow the Community of Practice and look forward to working together to support healthier food environments in communities.
